Catalyst 13.6 BETA 2 reveals AMD HD 8000 Series GPU lineup

AMD seems to be at the top of the hill as they bagged exclusive rights to make chips for Nintendo Wii U, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but they’re also working on HD 8000 series. Previously it was known that the HD 8000 Series will be called sea islands, but most likely it will be called as Hawaii and Curacao is not the codename for AMD HD 8970.

The information seems more credible as AMD Catalyst 13.6 Beta 2 drivers had support for multiple GPU processors codenamed ‘Hawaii’.

It was pointed out that ‘Hawaii GL Gemini’ (Gemini usually termed for dual core GPUs) for FirePro series Professional Graphic Cards. ‘Hawaii GL40’ points out that the support is for the GPU with up to 2560 stream processors. ‘Hawaii Pro’, ‘Hawaii XT’ and ‘Hawaii LE’ are termed for AMD Radeon family, with the hunch that HD 8970’s codename is ‘Hawaii XT’, followed by HD 8950 for ‘Hawaii Pro’, whereas ‘LE’ could be termed for HD 8870 and even HD 8930 GPU units.

As of now, its known that AMD will be launching HD 8000 series in September.
