The availability of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series has not been doing well since its release. Because of this issue, the MSRP of these graphics cards has been skyrocketing. The scarcity of the already stifled supply of the cards will worse during Q1 2021.
It was earlier assured that Nvidia will be improving its RTX 30 series supply around may. But there are retailers from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany who spoke to Nvidia, contradicting the statement. It was said that most are picking up RTX 3080 graphics cards resulting in many open orders, while the RTX 30890 have few deliveries with little open order. The RTX 3070 has some open orders however the RTX 3060 Ti has a high number of open orders. In comparison, the RTX 3070 and RTX 3090 have higher chances of purchase in the EU due to comparatively lesser open orders.
Reasons for short supply…
Which brings attention to the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3060 Ti with a long list of waiting customers. Furthermore, the Chinese New Year will result in a shut down of two weeks. The extent of this effect would not result in higher cost but also much longer wait time. It is not clear how and when Nvidia RTX 3070 Ti and the RTX 3080 Ti will be released in between this supply issue. Therefore it is likely we’ll not see any ease of supplies anytime soon. We still need to consider the issue surrounding scalpers as they’ve been pretty good with choking the graphic’s card ease of availability. The booming crypto mining need does not help the cause, while both Nvidia and AMD conveniently did not use any means to stop these GPUs to be used for mining.
Scalpers have always been an issue. And price-fixing due to artificial short supply on Nvidia and AMD graphics cards isn’t something new. We’ll only know if this is true or not in the distant future, like in the 2018 settlement. However, we need to keep in mind that not too long ago, Nvidia was caught artificially stifling stocks of
