Thinkpad batteries recalled due to fire hazard risk

Lenovo has issued battery recalls for its Thinkpad units citing its batteries’ potential fire hazard risk as a reason. As of now, Lenovo recalled about 2,900 batteries in Canada, about 34,500 batteries in the US and about 117,732 batteries from China.

These batteries were shipped worldwide between October 2010 and April 2011 for Thinkpad models under ‘T’, ‘W’, ‘X’, ‘Edge’ series, followed by products with P/N 3R9255, 51J0500, 57Y4186, 57Y4564, 57Y4565, 57Y4625, 57Y4559, 43R9254 and 0A36277.

End users can identify if their batteries are affected. If the serial code of the Lenovo Thinkpad contains the numbers 42T4695, 42T4711, 42T4798, 42T4804, 42T4812, 42T4822, 42T4828, 42T4834, 42T4840 or 42T4890, they should contact Lenovo for further help. Though as of now, there haven’t been any reports of physical injury, reports of overheating and damages to laptops & property did come up. It is recommended that users should use their Thinkpads without the battery by plugging in the AC adapter until the replacement arrives.
