ZOTAC intros RTX 30 ‘Trinity’ and ‘Twin Edge’ Graphics cards

Now that the Nividia RTX 30 series graphics cards are announced with respective dates and MSRP, as expected the AIC partners will have their respective units. The company introduces a new ‘Trinity’ and ‘Twin Edge’ series. As you expect, the Trinity indicates triple fans and Twin Edge is dual fan setup.

Trinity series is kept for RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 variants, whereas Twin Edge is for the RTX 3070.

Clock Speed Ahead?

Interestingly, just like Nvidia, ZOTAC only mentions the boost clock and not the base clock speed. The whole point of having a base and the boost clock is to show the window of ‘potential maximum boost speed’. Hopefully will not be an industry-standard because turbo clock speeds are based on the settings, temperature and fan cooling capacity depending on the ambient temperature of a setup. I’ve mentioned the respective Founder Edition’s boost clock speed next to the respective Zotac card’s boost clock speeds.

Which brings to the point that these graphics card with custom cooling do not have factory overclocks out of the box. Zotac that the AMP! variants will be coming in the future. So it is safe to say Trinity variants are probably going to be FE clocked variants with custom cooling (and maybe custom PCB?) while the AMP! variants will be factory overclocked. Makes sense, considering the pricing between the Founders Edition and the Trinity/ Twin Edge

Indian pricing (by respective companies)
RTX 3090RTX 3080RTX 3070
Nvidia Founders EditionRs. 1,52,000/-Rs 71,000/-Rs. 51,000/-
ZOTAC Trinity/ Dual EdgeRs. 1,47,990/-Rs. 69,990/-Rs. 49,990/-

Power Requirements and Labeling Confusion

The graphics card follow the power supply recommendation of the respective graphics cards, though it would have been appreciated if Nvidia started the practice of mentioning 80Plus standard. The RTX 3090 FE has a power requirement for 350 watts, while the RTX 3080 has 320 power draw requirement. Therefore actual mention of 80Plus certification is needed for most non-technical users to help with the confusion during purchase. The market usually has 80Plus Gold, Bronze and white, with platinum being sold lesser in comparison and Silver-rated power supplies are nowhere to be seen. The 80Plus organization, in good faith, should have limited the certification of 80Plus White to 450w-550w at best.

Considering the power requirements of RTX 3090, it goes without saying that Gigabyte’s efforts to mention the power draw capacity on its P750M and P850M. Hopefully, all power manufacturers specifically mention that particular units are suited for a system with RTX 3090 and the RTX 3080.
